- Do some practice videos before you upload your first youtube video. You may look back a few months or even a few weeks from now and think your first efforts are terrible. You probably want to put your best foot forward, so practice a little before you put something out there on the internet.
- Use a good camera. Sometimes something recorded on your phone camera just doesn't look good, maybe because it's too shaky, the resolution is too low, or something else. Find a good camera, use a tripod if possible, and don't be afraid to spend a little money if this is something you're serious about. Gone are the days when you need a $100,000 camera just to get a good image... a few hundred dollars will do. Some webcams at the $100 mark can even get decent images.
- Don't worry about getting a million views in one weekend. Thos things are the exception, not the rule, and you've got to start out slowly. Rome wasn't built in a day.
- Try recording in HD. A higher quality picture can sometimes mean a higher quality video and almost always means a higher quality viewing experience.
- Keep the "story" in mind. EVERY piece has a story, even game reviews, a video about quantum entanglement, a video response to a crying man.
- Think like a director. Think about angles, shots, lighting, pacing, even emotion and the inflections in your voice.
- Don't let the music overpower the narration.
- Keep it exciting. Make your visuals interesting, make sure the video is paced quickly enough, don't talk in a monotone voice. But don't overdo it, either.
- Have fun! If you're having fun, you're viewers will to.
